'Double Departure' Contemporary Realism Still-Life Paintings by Paula Peacock

Image
Double Departure by Paula Peacock Oil on Canvas 16" X 20" In 2014 I lost my little sister to breast cancer and my son was killed 6 months later. This painting honors the people I lost. The monk figurine represents me and the two monks in the mirror represent my son and my sister. I am on this side and they have transitioned to the other side yet we will always remain connected as shown by the thin white ribbon. The white butterflies on the other side(in the mirror) are indicative of angels (for me). 'Nest II (Reality) Narrative Oil paintings by Paula Peacock

Image
Nest II (Reality) 12" x 16" Oil on Linen From the 'Altered Soul' Series  (The Art of Grief) Generated after the death of my son. This is no longer the fantasy of a warm and cozy home. This has become my reality. The pear on the right is cracked and broken open, its' essence is gone. What is left is an empty shell, an encasing, a vessel that is no longer needed. Still in the home on this plane, my daughter and feel shattered, irreversibly changed, never to be the same again. "The Key to Me" Oil Paintings by Paula Peacock

Image
'The Key to Me' Oil on Linen 16" x 20" by Paula Peacock The inner pear shows an attempt to discard the outer dark cloak of constant depression (the outer layer) which serves as a hardened armor and a disguise to fool, not only myself, but others as well.  The inner pear tries to emerge completely out, to be what she once was, but continues holding on to her protective tough skin not quite ready to bravely step out and be happy without feeling guilt.
