'Unbound' by Paula Peacock 16" x 20" Oil on Canvas A breath of fresh air! After almost 3 years of my life being consumed and controlled by grief because of the loss of my son, I now have moments of feeling like Paula again. I’m still grieving and realize I always will.  What we were is gone. What will be is yet to come. But, we will be. The sky is a bit brighter as the sun rises, symbolic of a new day, with the heavyweight of darkness being pushed aside. A beautiful blue butterfly releases the restraints of grief and anger, allowing me the ability to breathe again and to look forward to what the day may bring. Live each day as though it’s all we have and remember to tell your children you love them no matter their age. They will never outgrow hearing it and we should never tire of saying it. Double Departure by Paula Peacock Oil on Canvas 16" X 20" In 2014 I lost my little sister to breast cancer and my son was killed 6 months later. This painting honors the people I lost. The monk figurine represents me and the two monks in the mirror represent my son and my sister. I am on this side and they have transitioned to the other side yet we will always remain connected as shown by the thin white ribbon. The white butterflies on the other side(in the mirror) are indicative of angels (for me). The nautilus indicates my mental state at the time, trapped, alone, yet protected by the outer walls I had erected while I dealt with grief. I've had a fascination of nursery rhyme origins for quite some time. This painting is about the nursery rhyme, Humpty Dumpty. The following information is an excerpt from rhymes.org.uk; "Humpty Dumpty was a term used in fifteenth century England describing someone who was obese. Humpty Dumpty was in fact believed to be a large cannon! It was used during the English Civil War ( 1642 - 1649). A huge cannon, called Humpty Dumpty, was placed on the wall next to St Mary's Church. The historical events detailing the siege of Colchester are well documented - references to the cannon ( Humpty Dumpty) are as follows: *St Mary's Church is fortified and a large cannon is placed on the roof which was fired by ‘One-Eyed Jack Thompson' *July 14th / July 15th 1648 - ...

Lots of new faces as well as a few that I hadn't seen in a few years. It was nice to catch up. Though it is a lot of work preparing for the event, it is always well worth it. I'm still trying to catch my breath. As I sit here with Ziggy laying across my feet (big orange kitty, on his back, feet in the air and doing a great job of imitating road kill), we are contemplating the direction my art should go in. Some of it is what I call the 'Traditional Still Life' genre. It is always nice, safe, sells, rarely stimulates conversation.
