Allegorical, Realism, Surrealism Still-Life Oil Paintings by Paula Peacock

Image
Lilies with Critters 18" x 24" Oil on Canvas White isn't just white. I love the challenge of painting white and the search for the subtle colors that hide so well. For me, it's like being on a treasure hunt and having that "ah-ha!" moment of discovery when I find the soft colors hidden within. Looking closely at this painting you will find the 'critters'; a hummingbird, ladybug, butterfly, and snail who I fondly refer to as Harvey. Harvey was a bit slow in his arrival at the feast. Being fashionably late isn't always popular. May all that is happy be known to your heart. 'Unbound', 16"x20", Oil on Canvas, Contemporary Realism Still Life Oil Paintings by Paula Peacock

Image
'Unbound' by Paula Peacock 16" x 20" Oil on Canvas A breath of fresh air! After almost 3 years of my life being consumed and controlled by grief because of the loss of my son, I now have moments of feeling like Paula again. I’m still grieving and realize I always will.  What we were is gone. What will be is yet to come. But, we will be. The sky is a bit brighter as the sun rises, symbolic of a new day, with the heavyweight of darkness being pushed aside. A beautiful blue butterfly releases the restraints of grief and anger, allowing me the ability to breathe again and to look forward to what the day may bring. Live each day as though it’s all we have and remember to tell your children you love them no matter their age. They will never outgrow hearing it and we should never tire of saying it. 'Lilies with Critters' Contemporary Realism Still Life of Paula Peacock

Image
'Lilies with Critters' by Paula Peacock 24 in. X 30 in. Oil on Canvas This painting signifies an awakening for me. After the killing of my son, I went into a major depression and found myself creating dark paintings. I realize now I was creating a visual journal of depression and grief. Thirteen paintings & six sculptures later the heaviness left me and this painting is indicative of me waking up, coming out of my cocoon. It represents an active Springtime when insects and birds become busy with an air of excitement, renewal, and growth. You will find a snail, a ladybug, a butterfly and a hummingbird. Art really is therapeutic and I would be the first to say, it saved my life. If you are interested in learning to paint I hold WEEKLY OIL PANTING CLASSES & Bi-Monthly Workshops Every Monday and Wednesday 11 am - 1 pm   (ex. holidays)  Come join a great group every week for mentoring, painting and good company. 'Coming Out', Contemporary Oil Paintings by Paula Peacock

Image
'Coming Out' by Paula Peacock 11"x14" Oil on Canvas This painting was inspired by one of my students whom I taught for 5 years. At 13 years old, she announced to me she was gay. A year or so later she announced she was bi-sexual, then transgender/transsexual, then simply said, "it's complicated". She kept this information from her family for at least 5 years. Her teenaged angst was multiplied ten-fold while she struggled with her identity, hiding who she really was. Towards the end of our time spent together teaching and learning, she finally came out to her mother. There was an overnight change in her personality. She was relieved, happy, elated, light as a feather, sunshiny and danced on-air to name a few emotions. I thought of her as a butterfly emerging from her cocoon and was free to fly like the beautiful person she was. She graduated high school and left for college. I miss seeing her weekly for our 2 hours of making art and talking and ...
