(Alice in Wonderland) After my son was murdered in 2014 I started a series of paintings and sculptures which I call 'Altered Soul'. This is one of those paintings. Major depression had set in and my world and as well as myself had changed, never to be the same again. I was missing what life used to be for me and I was searching for healing. 'Lilies with Critters' by Paula Peacock 24 in. X 30 in. Oil on Canvas This painting signifies an awakening for me. After the killing of my son, I went into a major depression and found myself creating dark paintings. I realize now I was creating a visual journal of depression and grief. Thirteen paintings & six sculptures later the heaviness left me and this painting is indicative of me waking up, coming out of my cocoon. It represents an active Springtime when insects and birds become busy with an air of excitement, renewal, and growth. You will find a snail, a ladybug, a butterfly and a hummingbird. Art really is therapeutic and I would be the first to say, it saved my life.    ' Pandora's Box'  Oil on Canvas, 16" x 20" Love, love, love how this one turned out! This painting was years in the planning stages. Planning of the composition, the subject matter, do I include Pandora or not? How to depict the evils of the world? How to depict 'Hope'? In the end, I decided Pandora was overdone and in other paintings I found, Pandora always seemed to be depicted as an overly sexy sex object and a bit on the 'witchy' side. So, I decided to save Pandora the humiliation and let her take a rest from this rendition by painting only the 'box'. All the other elements fell into place after I found the perfect vessel. The apple is representative of Eve, another woman blamed for the woes of the world. But, that will be another story in another painting. Nest II (Reality) 12" x 16" Oil on Linen From the 'Altered Soul' Series  (The Art of Grief) Generated after the death of my son. This is no longer the fantasy of a warm and cozy home. This has become my reality. The pear on the right is cracked and broken open, its' essence is gone. What is left is an empty shell, an encasing, a vessel that is no longer needed. Still in the home on this plane, my daughter and feel shattered, irreversibly changed, never to be the same again.
