'The Key to Me' Oil on Linen 16" x 20" by Paula Peacock The inner pear shows an attempt to discard the outer dark cloak of constant depression (the outer layer) which serves as a hardened armor and a disguise to fool, not only myself, but others as well.  The inner pear tries to emerge completely out, to be what she once was, but continues holding on to her protective tough skin not quite ready to bravely step out and be happy without feeling guilt. They are amazing. They grab our attention. And if you look closely, they are beautifully colorful as the oily soap swirls around their surface, reflecting the color spectrum and their environment back to the observer. Though they are made from the same substance, each are different in their own way. A bubbles’ time spent awing us is brief.  We are amazing, colorful, reflecting the culture we are raised in. We are the same, we are different. We are here for only a moment. Bubbles are indicative of the brevity of life. The thorns represent our environment and what is todays’ society, and reflect the tricky journey of stops and starts, of ups and downs, of left turns and right turns during our very short lives.
